LAPLACE – Authorities in Houston have apprehended a LaPlace man who was wanted in connection with a double shooting in St. John Parish earlier this year, said a spokesman for the St. John Sheriff’s Office.

Maj. Mike Tregre, public information officer for the Sheriff’s Office, said Arthur Brown III, 22, 2116 Pinehurst St., was booked into the Sherman Walker Correctional Facility last Thursday after being transferred from a jail in Houston. Brown is being held on $1 million bond, and is facing two counts of second-degree murder.

Tregre said U.S. marshals, and deputies from the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, arrested Brown July 17. He said Brown was last seen in Atlanta before catching a bus to Houston to stay with friends in that area. Upon arrest, Brown waived extradition and was transported back to St. John Parish.

St. John deputies have been on the lookout for Brown since the May 1 shooting, which occurred in the 1800 block of Meeker Loop in LaPlace. According to a report from the Sheriff’s Office, prior to the shooting, Brown was involved in an argument with his two victims, an unidentified married couple. As the altercation intensified, Brown pulled out a .45 caliber Glock semiautomatic pistol and opened fire. The bullets struck the male victim in the leg and the female victim in the forehead. The couple survived the attack.

Tregre said the investigation is still open, and anyone with information should contact the St. John Sheriff’s Office at 985-652-6338.
