Luling, La– The Monsanto Luling site was recently honored by the Louisiana Department of Education for their work with R.K. Smith Middle School, the site’s “Adopt-A-School Partner.” On June 18th, Monsanto received the Distinguished Partner in Education Award at a ceremony to be held in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
According to the Louisiana Department of Education, “The program honors business partnerships and community involvement that contribute to the success of public schools and the academic achievement of students. The contributions don’t have to be financial, but must demonstrate a sustained commitment to and support of quality education.”
Monsanto and R.K. Smith have been “Partners in Education” since 1987, but the two have been working together much longer. Over the years Monsanto employees have served as mentors for students, science and social studies fair judges, guest teachers, and coaches. In addition, the Luling site hosts students and teachers each year for their end of the year fieldtrip. Monsanto also donates funds annually to make activities possible such as: Circus of the Kids which fosters courage and a can-do attitude, quarterly Honor Roll Celebrations, End of the Year Award Ceremonies, field trips, after-school tutoring buses, Appreciation Weeks for students and teachers, and student agenda books.
While Monsanto is able to give a great deal to R.K. Smith Middle School, it is truly our employees that see the benefits. Our employees are always learning from and enjoying their experiences with these students, and they look forward to our continued support of the school and the community.
