LAPLACE—Two boys playing in the River Forest subdivision literally had a present fall from the skies recently.

Cole Meyers and Jonathan Grenier saw a bird fall from its nest onto the road.

Although the bird was still a wobbly infant, its large size led the boys to believe they had found an eagle.

With new prize in hand, they excitedly brought it to show Cole’s mother, Fran Meyers, who broke the news that they would not be able to keep their exotic pet.

They took the animal to an animal hospital, where they were informed that the creature was not an eagle but a hawk.

The bird has since been transferred to the care of experts at Louisiana State University.
