Local soldier promoted to Navy Master Chief

Sean J. Landry, son of Alton “Pete” and Rosemary Landry of LaPlace was promoted to Navy Master Chief in April 2008. This is the highest enlisted rank in the military. Landry has served in the U.S. Naval Submarine service for the past 17-and-a-half years and is planning to make a career in the Navy. He is currently serving on the USS Wyoming, an Ohio class “Boomer” Trident nuclear ballistic missile submarine based in Kings Bay Naval Base, Ga.

In 2007, Sean attended the Navy Senior Enlisted Academy and COB/CMC training course at Newport, R.I. When he returned to sea duty in March 2007, he returned to the USS Wyoming as the Chief of the Boat (COB). In this capacity, Sean is the senior enlisted non commissioned officer on the submarine and is responsible for day to day operations of all 158 enlisted crewmen. He is a member of the Command Triad, consisting of the Commanding Officer, the Executive Officer and the COB. The COB advises the Commanding Officer and Executive Officer on all crew matters.

Sean, his wife Kristyn, and daughter Alyssa and Amanda reside in Kingsland, Ga. Kristyn is an elementary school teacher with a Masters Degree in early childhood education and is teaching in Camden County, Ga.
