Piranhas notch first win, beat Sun Villa, 286-206

Belle Terre earned its first victory of the swim season last Thursday night, pushing through in the relay events to defeat host Sun Villa, 286-206.
The teams traded the lead after each of the four individual swim strokes, and Belle Terre (1-3) led 202-178 entering the relays.
But the Piranhas outscored Sun Villa 42-14 in each of the freestyle and medley relay events to clinch the win.
“The kids were very excited,” said Belle Terre swimming Coach Laura Bailey. “They swam their hearts out. It was a good win for everyone.”
Bailey said that the win allowed her team to put their season opening-losing streak in the past.
“It was the best the kids swam all season,” she said. “It pumps their spirit up, and they’re more excited (entering Belle Terre’s next meet).”
Alexis Bailey, Cari Jane Roussel, Tyra Watkins, Ashton Torres, Blaine Tatje and Gage Alleman all posted dominant efforts for Belle Terre, taking first place n three events each.
Sun Villa led 55-53 after the freestyle event. Belle Terre took a 111-103 lead after the backstroke. Sun Villa led 157-150 after the breaststroke.
The Piranhas’ Kerry Brown, Tai Sutherland and Keagan Gilles each took two first place finishes each.
Rounding out the Belle Terre first place finishers were Candace McGaff, James Krawczyk, and Noah Duncan rounded out the first place winners for Belle Terre.
