St. Charles Catholic senior Donovan Duffy has recently signed with Millsaps College to continue his baseball and football career.

“It feels good,” said Duffy. “It took awhile to make the decision. Eventually, my parents and I decided it would be the best place to go and be happy.”

Said St. Charles football Coach Frank Monica: “He’s what they call a true football player. He’s very aggressive, very hard nosed.

“He’s a coach’s player, he always plays all out. And he’s got great character. As good as he was on the field, he’s just as great in the locker room, which is so important.”

Duffy played tight end and defensive end for the Comets football team. He also lined up at full back at times, serving as a key lead blocker for running back Jonathan Cancienne, who rushed for 1,000 yards this past season. His play saw him selected to the L’Observateur’s All-St. John Parish team.

On the baseball field, Duffy anchored the St. Charles rotation for much of the season. He was selected to the 9-3A All-District team. He finished the season with a record of 8-2, which included a postseason two-hitter against Avoyelles.

After a highly successful career at SCC, he says he’ll remember his time there fondly.

In fact, he could only think of one thing to improve upon.

“I’ll always remember the runs we made to the state championship games, in baseball and football,” Duffy said. “We won a lot of games. But I also remember the feeling of never winning that last game. I hope we can do that at the next level.”
