The South Central Planning Safe Community ATV Committee announces a community wide essay contest on the topic of “Off Road Means Off Road:  What Off Road Safety Means to Me.”

The contest is open to children in grades fourth through twelfth in the Parishes of Assumption, Lafourche, St. James, St. John the Baptist and Terrebonne.  Winners will be recognized at a cake and punch reception.

Essays are to be at least 200 words and should be submitted to SCPDC, P.O. Box 1870, Gray, LA  70359 by June 25, 2008.  All essays should include name, age, address and phone number so that winners can be contacted.

“As an ATV owner, I hope parents and kids alike understand the need to caution when having fun on these pieces of equipment.  They allow for awesome times, but if you aren’t safe they can pose serious dangers to riders of all ages,” Parish President Bill Hubbard said.
