Malik

Thomas J. Malik, a retired District Judge, died on Tuesday, May 27, 2008. He is survived by Virginia Baylor Malik his wife of 49 years. Also survived by his children: Anne Grindy of Everett, Washington, Sylvia Robine of Tuscon, Arizona, John of Greenville, South Carolina, Thomas of LaPlace, LA and Barbara Weller of Metairie, LA; eight grandchildren; and two great-grand-children. Judge Malik was born in Chicago, IL on January 2, 1933, the son of the late Frank and Emily. He was a graduate of St. James Prep in Orlando, FL and attended George Washington University, Southeastern Louisiana University and Tulane University before his graduation from Loyola Law School with a Juris Doctor Degree in 1960. He also earned an M.B.A. degree in 2002. Judge Malik was elected to the district Court in 1972 and retired in 1992. While on the bench he served many years on the faculty of the National Juvenile Judges College in Reno, Nevada. He also served as President of the St. Charles/St. John the Baptist Bar Association and in 1965 was elected Director of the Greater New Orleans Bar Association. A native of Orlando, Florida, Judge Malik lived in LaPlace, LA since 1959. He served in the U.S. Army for 3 years and moved to Louisiana following his discharge. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3337 in LaPlace. In addition to many civic organizations, Judge Malik was a member of the Louisiana, Illinois and New York Bar Associations. In 1965 and 1970 he appeared before the United States Supreme Court. A licensed pilot, flying was his hobby until his election to the Court. In 1973, he served as King DuMonde I in the LaPlace Mardis Gras.

Visitation and services were held Monday, June 2, at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, LaPlace. Burial to be private at a later date.

Hay

 Jackie E. Hay, husband of Ernestine Hay, passed away on Monday, May 26. Son of Pearl Hay and the late Robert Hay. Brother of Regina Brown, Steven Hay, and James Hay. Father of Rene Ayme, Christine Luquette, Bernadette Coburn, Kim Jeansonne, Anna Thacker, Robert, Mark, and Jackie Hay. He was survived by 22 Grandchildren and 7 Great-Grandchildren. He was a member of American Legion Post Laplace. Air Force Veteran.

Church services were Friday, May 30,  at Saint Joan of Arc Catholic Church. Burial to follow at a later date.

Jacobs

Clare M. Jacobs on Friday, May 30, 2008 at 8:57AM. Beloved daughter of the late Lucien and Domatile Jacobs. Sister of Henry Jacobs and Yvonne J. MacDonald and the late Marcelle J. Wright, Leona J. Schwab, Bertha J. Ringhiser, Ruth J. Johnson, Alice J. Hoffman, Etha Jacobs, Alma Jacobs, Louise J. Doria and Lilly J. Lightel. Age 97 years. A native of New Orleans, La., and a resident of LaPlace, La., for the past 3 years.

Visitation and services were held Monday, June 2, at  Millet-Guidry Funeral Home, LaPlace. Burial in St. Roch #2 Cemetery, New Orleans.

Vicknair

Ruby “Mamere” Huguet Aubert Vicknair, 92, died May 31, 2008. The Convent resident is survived by her daughter, Myrtie Ann Chauvin; two sons, Roy and Claude Jr.; a brother, Ray Huguet; a sister, Daisy Richardson. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Claude Francis Aubert Sr.; second husband, Edward Vicknair Jr.; her parents, George and Bella Huguet; two brothers, George Huguet Jr., and Day Huguet; and one sister, Gertrude H. Folse. Visitation and funeral services were held Tuesday, June 3, at St. Michael Catholic Church in Convent. Interment at St. Michael Cemetery.

Troxclair

Shirlie B. Troxclair, 76, died May 29, 2008. The Lutcher resident was the wife of the late Sherman J. Troxclair, mother of Donny Troxclair, grandmother of Justin and Brad Troxclair, and sister of Gayle and Edward Borne Jr. Visitation and funeral services were held Monday, June 2, at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Entombment in St. Joseph Mausoleum.

Millet

Our angel Audrey Wempren Millet left this world to be with Jesus on Wednesday, May 28, 2008 at 5:30 p.m. Wife of the late Edward J. Millet. Mother and mother-in-law of Kirt and Mae Mae Millet, Catherine M. and Quill Barbier and Dolly M. Pike and her late husband, Ron. Also survived by 7 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Daughter of the late Honore and Alexina Root Wempren. Sister of the late Sonny, Bill and Roy Wempren. Age 86 years. A native and resident of LaPlace, La.

Visitation and services were held Saturday, May 31, at Millet-Guidry Funeral Home, LaPlace. Burial in St. Peter Cemetery in Reserve.

Moore

Taytum Aevon Moore, 2, died May 25, 2008. The LaPlace resident was the daughter of Tremayne and Margo Moore, sister of Torrian J. Moore and A’Hnesty Alexander, granddaughter of Edna D. Robertson, Robert Moore, III, Lurline Warren and Michael Warren, great granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Moore, Sr., Elouise Duhe, Edwin Duhe Sr., Isabella Gerard, Helen Warren and the late Earl Gerard, Sr., and Joseph Warren. Visitation and funeral services were held Thursday, May 29, 2008, at Zion Travelers Baptist Church in LaPlace. Interment at church cemetery.

Gordon

Travelll Michael “Sticky Tee” Gordon died May 26, 2008. He was son of Veronica Steib Gordon and the late Wilbert Gordon Jr., brother of Burnell Gordon, uncle of Beyonce’ and Jontrae Gordon and Brelin Gibbs and nephew of Dorothy Williams, Daniel Steib, Stephen Steib, Claude Steib, Claudette Raphael, Glenda Greer, Lucille Sorapuru, Verna Clofer, Willa Gordon, Sheryl Johnson, Patricia Gordon, Karen Pierre and Dale A. Gordon.

Visitation and services were held Thursday, May 29, at St. Phillip Catholic Church in Vacherie. Interment at St. Phillip Church Cemetery.
