St. Charles seniors Jonathan Cancienne and Lauren Coniglio were honored at the Comet athletic banquet on May 10, named as Mr. and Miss Comet respectively for the 2007-2008 school years.

Cancienne was an All-District 9-3A performer in baseball and football. On the gridiron, he was the Comets’ starting running back and leading rusher, while doubling as the team’s return man. He excelled in each role, tallying 2056 all-purpose yards and 19 touchdowns over 10 games, including the playoffs.

He helped lead the baseball team to its third state championship game appearance in five years. Cancienne was one of the team’s top batters and baserunners. He used his considerable speed to his advantage in the outfield, where he patrolled centerfield with great success.

Coniglio earned the Miss Comet title after she helped lead the softball team to arguably its best season ever – a district title, 30 wins for the first time in school history, and a state championship.

Coniglio was All-District in both softball and volleyball. Playing catcher for the softball team, she hit three home runs to go with 18 RBIs, and led the team with a .516 slugging percentage.

In addition, she helped lead the Comet volleyball team to a berth in the state quarterfinals at the Pontchartrain Center, as well as an undefeated district crown.
