Since 1970, April 22 has been observed as “Earth Day” in the northern hemisphere. Conceived as a way to show appreciation for the environment, the annual event has never seemed more relevant. In this age of global warming, rising energy prices and consumption and unprecedented natural disasters, the need for an awareness of what is happening with the environment is crucial. In keeping with this, area schools participated in a number of environmentally-themed events recently so that the region’s students might leave a better world for their children than was left for them.
