Lutcher is a team that may be getting hot at the right time.

The Lady Bulldogs have won seven of their last 11 games. The latest victory was the biggest, as is always the case at this time of the year – Lutcher’s 10-3 win over West Feliciana on Saturday propelled the Bulldogs to the State Softball Tournament in Sulphur for the third straight season.

Lutcher (19-15-1), the No. 7 seed in the tournament, advances to the quarterfinals where it will face No. 2 seeded Kaplan on Friday at Frasch Park. The game will begin at 2 p.m.

West Feliciana (17-13-5) never seriously threatened in a game where the Bulldogs built a 10-1 lead after five innings. A fast start was the key, as Lutcher scored two runs in the first and five in the second to give the Saints an uphill climb.

Katie Ocmond put Lutcher on the board first, scoring on an inside the park home run. The momentum was already building. Kristen LaBauve would score on a wild pitch from third later in the inning.

Three West Feliciana errors would be costly to the Saints in the second, and Lutcher tacked on three unearned runs.

Lutcher pitcher Sara Schexnayder (10-8) allowed three runs on four hits and struck out three. She didn’t allow a hit until the fourth inning.
