It was double-trouble for Reserve Christian, as it hosted defending district champion Family Christian in a double header on Saturday.
The stout Family Christian lineup was locked in, and starting pitcher Leeanna Claybaugh ensured the Eagles could not match.
It added up to wins of 16-0 and 17-2, as FCA climbed to 3-0 in District 10-C play.
Claybaugh pitched both games in the doubleheader. The first ended in three innings via the 15-run rule, as Claybaugh allowed no hits. The second ended in four in the same way. She allowed only two hits in the second game.
It seemed like she threw harder at the end of the second game than when she started,” said Reserve Coach Michael Reeves. “She’s a real good pitcher, and she caught us looking at a bunch of third strikes. Ultimately, we just weren’t making good contact.”
Madison Reeves collected the only two hits for Reserve (3-6, 2-3). Reeves also scored two runs and stole two bases.
Michael Reeves said that his team, while coming into the season swinging hot bats, has cooled in recent weeks.
“We hit a lull a few weeks ago when we lost to Grand Isle,” he said. “Since then, we’ve just been off balance.”
The game was part of the Eagles’ “Senior Salute” day for it’s senior softball players. They included Madison Reeves, Jessica Louque, Aimee Durapau, Khrista Robinson, Jamie Mayberry, Kelly Thomas and Megan Donnelly.
Reserve was slated to face Grand Isle on the road in a rematch yesterday to conclude it’s regular season. A win would secure a second place district finish for Reserve, and a playoff berth.
