Hahnville’s Lauren Candies held visiting East St. John to four hits on Thursday to lead the Tigers to a 5-1 District 6-5A victory.

The win put Hahnville (25-11-1, 4-5) within a win in their last game of posting a .500 district record for the season, which would leave the team in fourth place in district play.

A victory yesterday at 6-5A leader St. Amant (after press time) would have given the Tigers a potential shot at a wildcard berth.

East St. John (12-16, 2-7) was scheduled to conclude its season at home against Dutchtown yesterday. Results will be in the next issue.

Candies earned the win. She struck out seven batters and held the Wildcats scoreless until the sixth inning.

The Wildcats’ Stacy Sutton (5-9) lasted 2.2 innings before giving way to Krista Tamplain. Sutton allowed four hits and walked three. Tamplain finished, allowing two hits and one walk while striking out five.

Hahnville took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning when the Tigers’ Tiffany Landry hit a sacrifice fly to score Megan Hamilton.

In the third, the Tigers busted it open. Danielle Nicholas had an RBI single, and Kristen Laque a two-RBI double to highlight a four-run inning, putting HHS ahead 5-0.

The game remained scoreless until the sixth. East St. John got on the board when Troyonne Kendrick’s single scored Jasmine Brown, who reached after being hit by a pitch.

“We started the game out with a couple of errors that shouldn’t have happened,” said East St. John Coach Monica Hebert. “We were flat. We didn’t play like we did on Tuesday (against Destrehan).”

Samantha Owens and Sutton each collected hits for the Ladycats.

Laque led Hahnville at the plate, going 2-for-3.
