Vicki Nesting, Assistant Director of the St. Charles Parish Library, has been named the recipient of the 2008 Anthony H. Benoit Mid-Career Award by the Louisiana Library Association.  This award honors a Louisiana librarian in mid-career for outstanding contributions to the field of librarianship.

Nesting’s major accomplishment is the creation of “lalibjobs,” a popular site that lists current library science job openings in Louisiana and the surrounding area.  She also sends out the new postings to her “lalibjobs” e-mail group.  More than 800 people from across the country subscribe to “lalibjobs,” and she has posted more than 2600 job announcements since the list was created in December 2000.

Nesting, who holds a Master of Library and Information Science from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, has been active in both the Louisiana Library Association and the American Library Association.  She previously was the East Regional Librarian for the St. Charles Parish Library, Circulation Librarian at West Bank Regional for Jefferson Parish Library and the Alvar Branch Head Librarian for New Orleans Public Library.

Nesting was also was named the 2008 Outstanding Alumna of the Year by the LSU School of Library and Information Sciences at an awards banquet last Friday.
