Entering Tuesday with a 1-4 District 6-5A record, East St. John needed a win at home in the worst way.

But unfortunately, the opponent was not ideal.

St. Amant entered the game undefeated in 6-5A, and left it the same way, leaving with an 11-1 victory.

Bridget Buquoi’s 3-run home run in the top of the first inning gave St. Amant (25-2, 7-0) a 3-0 lead. It would lead 6-1 after two. The Ladycats would never threaten the lead further.

Stacy Sutton (4-7) pitched the complete game, allowing 12 hits and five walks, while striking out nine batters.

Sutton also led the Wildcats (12-13-1) at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a single and double.

ESJ scored its only run of the game in the bottom of the first inning, as Seymone McKinney scored on an error after a Laci Sutton grounder.

The loss followed a split last weekend at Chalmette, where the Ladycats won the first game, 1-0, while dropping the second, 6-1.

Stacy Sutton struck out 13 in the Ladycat win, while tossing a complete game 1-hitter.

Samantha Owens’ RBI single in the fourth inning represented the only run of the game, as she drove home Laci Roy. Jasmine Brown was 2-for-4 at the plate.

But Chalmette scored four runs over the first two innings to seize control of the second game.

Krista Tamplain (7-7) started the game, but was relieved by Sutton in the third. Tamplain struck out one and allowed five hits. Sutton struck out 12 over the final five innings.

Troyonne Kendrick was 2-for-3 with an RBI. McKinney went 1-for-3 as well, as ESJ tallied only three hits in the game.
