RESERVE – Investigators with the St. John Sheriff’s Office are looking for clues in the shooting death of a Reserve man, the parish’s second homicide of the year.

According to a Sheriff’s Office report, around 11:09 p.m. Sunday, deputies were called to a home in the 200 block of East 27th Street in Reserve in response to a shooting in the area.

The report said responding deputies found the victim, 30-year-old Torrey Sanders, of East 27th Street, lying in the street. The report said Sanders had sustained a single gunshot wound to the chest, and he was pronounced dead on the scene.

Based on Sanders’ extensive criminal history of narcotics arrests, and the discovery of contraband on the scene, investigators believe the shooting was drug related.

Witnesses recall seeing a lone black male dressed in all black clothing leaving the scene just after the shooting. Anyone with any information regarding the shooting is asked to call Detective Royal Burke with the St. John Sheriff’s Office at 985-652-6338, or Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111.
