St. Charles Borromeo School in Destrehan held their first spelling bee for students in kindergarten through eighth grade.

In August of 2007 during an in-service, teachers recognized the need for improving SAT ~ 10 spelling scores.

With their SACS goals to be met, the spelling bee committee was formed: Melissa  Horn, Stephanie Broders, Michelle Gaillot, Angela Arismendi, Rose Gandolfi, Ellen Mock and Casha Pfister.  St. Charles Borromeo then registered with Scripps National Spelling Bee to obtain rules, information, and spelling lists for teachers to use.

Homeroom teachers held spelling bee contests to find out the top two spellers with them going on to the school wide competition.  Brad Grundmeyer from Cox Communications was the host of the school’s spelling bee.
