Fresh off of it’s run to the 2A state title game, St. Charles didn’t have to wait long for its first test of the 2008 baseball season.

Awaiting the Comets in their season opener was Dutchtown on Tuesday, a 5A team looking to make a postseason run this year after its 2007 campaign was cut short by eventual state champion Jesuit.

The Griffins are off to a good start after a 16-4 win over St. Charles on Tuesday.

The Comets were done in by Dutchtown’s fast start – the Griffins (1-0) scored a combined 10 runs in the first two innings of play.

Lee Boudreaux led Dutchtown with two home runs and three RBIs. Tommy Perkins had three RBIs as well for the Griffins.

Jordan Millet had two RBIs and two doubles to lead St. Charles.

St. Charles collected eight hits to Dutchtown’s 12. But the Comets also committed five errors.

John Day (1-0) recorded the win for Dutchtown. Donovan Duffy (0-1) took the loss.
