Myrtle “Mommee” August, 88, died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2008. The Edgard resident is survived by sons, Irvin Jr. and Lawrence August; daughters, Bernadette Narcisse and Delores Steib; sister, Ethel Charles. Also survived by 22 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by parents, Pearl Jack and Paukl Gautier; husband, Irvin August, Sr.; sisters, Isabelle Carter and Albertine Pierre; children, Vivian Washington, Ferdinand, Chester and Lottie August. Also preceded in death by one grandchild.

Mass of Christian Burial was Thursday, Feb. 7, 2008 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Interment followed in St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Edgard.

Berteau

Melvin J. Berteau, 83, died Friday, Feb. 1, 2008. He is survived by daughters, Kathy B. Mahile, Katie B. Parfait, Crystal B. Catalano and Keri Lynn B. Tate; sons, John and Kevin Berteau; brother, Launnie Bertreau. Also survived by 13 grandchildren and 14 gret-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by wife, Gloria Mollere Berteau; son, David P. Berteau; parents, Sidney and Corrinne Donaldson Berteau; sister, Carol Behre.

Funeral service and Mass of Christian Burial was Monday, Feb. 4, 2008 at the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Brown

Bradford Brown, Jr., 73, died Friday, Feb. 1, 2008. The LaPlace resident is survived by daughters, Catherine B. Martin, Chalanta B. Jefferson and Bradtrell Anderson; stepchildren, King Honoree and LeBaron Sylvester; sisters, Odessa Williams, Henrietta Carter, Sorphornia Smith, Ruth Scott and Amanda Stevenson; brothers, Henry, Davis and Chafee Brown. Also survived by 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by parents, Laura and Bradford Brown, Sr.

Funeral service was Friday, Feb. 8, 2008 at Rising Star B.C. in LaPlace. Interment followed in Providence Rest Haven Cemetery in LaPlace.

Colon

Mildred Granier Colon died Sunday, Feb. 3, 2008. The Norco resident is survived by daughters, Janet C. Sullivan and Nettie Gregorie; son, Bobby Joe Colon; sister, “Sis” Dufrene; brother, Emmett “Val” Granier. Also survived by eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by husband, Bobby Colon Sr.; parents, William “Bill” and Cecile Fabre Granier; sisters, Gladys Roussel and Eunice Rodrigue.

Mass of Christian Burial was Thursday, Feb. 7, 2008 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Norco. Entombement followed in St. Charles Borromeo Mausoleum in Destrehan.

Firmin

James G. Firmin, Sr., 85, died Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2008. He is survived by wife, Bertha Champagne Firmin; daughters, Teresa Godwin, Mary Hoffman, Lisa Firmin, Cynthia Grinnell and Alwyn Pommier; son, James G. Firmin, Jr. Also survived by six grandchildren.

Preceded in death by parents, John E. and Odile Gremillion Firmin. Also preceded by two brothers and two sisters.

Funeral Mass was Friday, Feb. 8, 2008 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Luling. Interment followed in St. Charles Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers Masses are preferred.

Laviolette

Michael Andre Laviolette, Sr., 53, died Monday, Feb. 4, 2008. The St. Rose native is survived by mother, Marjorie Wymer Laviolette; son, Michael Andre Laviolette, Jr.; devoted friend, Johnny Alvarez; ex-wife, Georgette Laviolette.

Preceded in death by father, Neville Andre Laviolette.

Funeral mass was Thursday, Feb. 7, 2008 at the Schoen Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in Greenwood Cemetery.

McPhail

James Brent McPhail, 52, died Thursday, Jan. 21, 2008. The former LaPlace resident is survived by wife, Debbie; daughters, Chelsea and Lacey; sons, Joshua and Tim; stepdaughter, Kaylee; brother, Kent.Services were Saturday, Feb. 2, 2008 at Trinity Church in Lubbock, TX. Burial followed in Abernathy Cemetery in Lubbock.

Bell

Elaine Poche’ Bell, 65, died Monday, Feb. 4, 2008. The Paulina native is survived by husband, Carl “Tuttie” Bell; sons, Carl Jr., Ryan, Kerry, John and Keith Bell; daughters, Valerie Sexton, Lynn Triche, Tammy Gendron, Pam Gilreth, Vonda Hannaman and Sherry Luquette; sister, Myrtis Trosclair. Also survived by 20 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by parents, Anne Laiche and Rene’ “Frere” Poche’; sister, Ruth Louque; brothers, A.J., Garland, Pete “Peg Leg” and Dalton Poche’.
