Loyola, former RCS standout Smith named Player of the Week

BATON ROUGE – Loyola’s Trenese Smith was named the Women’s Player of the Week by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association, it was announced on Thursday.

Smith, a sophomore guard for Loyola, averaged 27.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists during last week and set the Loyola single game scoring record with 39 points in the win over Dillard. The LaPlace, La., native converted 10 three pointers in the Dillard game that broke the Loyola record. That mark also tied the GCAC record for most three pointers in a game. Smith also scored her 1,000 career point in the victory over Dillard.

The LSWA selects a weekly Player of the Week for men’s and women’s basketball from a list of nominations submitted by the state schools.
