St. Charles improved to 3-0 in district play and garnered their eighth shutout of the season, winning at home over Riverside, 11-0.

John Abbate scored three goals to lead St. Charles.

Chris Ilski, Peter-Lambert Oswald, Ryan Reed, Ryan Forsythe, Nick Woodroof, Matt Bolden and Steven Graver all scored goals for the Comets (11-9, 3-0).

“I asked them to play aggressively, to get into that mindset,” said St. Charles Coach Rick Woodroof. “They did a fair job playing disciplined ball, and we were balanced across the board.

Ilski led the game off with a score in the early minutes, and Lambert-Oswald followed suit with one of his own shortly after.

From there, St. Charles’s offense got loose, scoring a season high in goals.

St. Charles suffered a scary moment when Ilski suffered an injury to his head in an on-field collision, shortly into the first half. He was brought to a hospital during the game, but has since been released and has been recovering at home.

Now St. Charles turns it’s attention to E.D. White. With two games left to play between the two teams, the results will likely determine the district championship. The first meeting takes place at E.D. White on Tuesday.

“They’re a real test for us,” said Woodroof. “They’ve beaten some substantial teams this year, and they were no pushover when we faced them last year.”
