After having defeated Independence 8-1 at home a week prior, Riverside matched the feat on the road on Monday, taking a 5-0 victory.
Heidi Garcich led the Rebels with three goals. Katherine Gonzales and Brittine Weber each scored in the win.
Riverside (2-3) played well in the victory, said Rebels Coach Daniel Waguespack, but not up to the standard the team set in its previous victory.
“I think they came in thinking it was going to be a blowout, and we didn’t play up to our capabilities,” Waguespack said.
While his team may have come out flat, Waguespack said that the Rebels’ second half performance was much more impressive.
“We started putting it together in the second half,” he said. “We weren’t passing well at all, but it got better as the game went on.”
Overall, though, Waguespack couldn’t be too unhappy with a shutout performance, one that leaves his team within one victory of getting to the .500 mark.
“We were aggressive again, and we played well overall,” he said. “I think they just came into it a little overconfident.”
Riverside began play in the Parkway tournament on Friday, which will extend to Sunday.
