Riverside tied Independence on Monday, 1-1, and brought its record to 1-2-1.

Jesse LeBlanc scored the Rebels’ lone goal on a penalty kick midway through the first half. Independence trailed at halftime, but was able to tie the score in the second half.

But Riverside made a believer out of at least one observer in regards to an improvement from last season.

“They beat us 9-0 last season. Their coach said that this was a much different, better team than it had been,” said Waguespack. “Hopefully we can start translating our play into wins.”

Waguespack noted that the team played very well, but still hopes to see more cohesion from his players.

“Our passes aren’t as crisp as they need to be. We still lack aggressiveness, and if we can improve that, we’ll start having success.”
