LAPLACE – The St. Charles Parish Council received a complete makeover as runoff elections were held on Saturday, as all incumbents were either defeated early, or term limited out of their seats.
Division A
In the Councilman-at-large position for Division A, community volunteer Carolyn Schexnaydre bested April Black, who presently holds the Dist. 5 council seat. Black, who narrowly led the September primary vote, was the only current member of the council with an opportunity to continue serving. Schexnaydre gathered 4445 votes for 54 percent, which was good enough to beat Black, who took home 3834 votes for 46 percent of the vote.
District 2
Businessman Shelley Tastet is the new council representative for District 2, after beating out 25-year-old college student Kennilyn Schmill. In the race to replace Brian Fabre, Tastet garnered 894 votes, for 58 percent, while Schmill received 648 votes, for 42 percent.
District 6
The battle for Richard Duhe’s vacated District 6 council seat was taken by St. Charles mortgage broker Marcus Lambert, who beat out St. Charles businessman Keith L’Hoste. Lambert brought in 778 votes, for 58 percent of the vote, while L’Hoste managed 564 votes, good for 42 percent.
District 7
Republican Dennis Nuss is the new face for District 7, after beating out 21-year-old Tulane student Adam Eitmann. Nuss picked up 724 votes for 51 percent of the vote, narrowly defeating Eitmann, who received 694 votes for 49 percent. Nuss will succeed councilman Barry Minnich, who was left out of the race because of term limits.
