LAPLACE – Sheriff’s Office authorities in St. John the Baptist Parish are looking for a gunman who allegedly robbed a 25-year-old LaPlace man in the parking lot of a drugstore.

Maj. Mike Tregre, a Sheriff’s Office spokesman said the incident occurred Friday November 16 at the Walgreens drugstore in the 1800 block of Airline Highway around 11 p.m.

According to police reports, the victim had gone into the store while a passenger, a Kenner man whose age is unknown, remained in the victim’s vehicle. As the victim exited the store, he noticed an unidentified man sitting in the driver’s seat.

The victim told deputies that the gunman got out of the car and ordered him to get in the back seat. The gunman took the man’s wallet and cellular phone, and warned the victim not to call police. The report said nothing was taken from the other passenger during the incident.

Tregre said the gunman, dressed in a black hooded sweatshirt, with black pants and dreadlocks, fled the scene on foot after the robbery. Tregre said the victim drove his passenger to Kenner, returned to LaPlace, and called the St. John Sheriff’s Office the next afternoon.

Anyone with any information regarding the robbery is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 652-9514. The case officer is Det. Walter Stevens.
