Each of Lutcher (10-1) and Redemptorist (11-1) have only lost once this season and each boasts a decidedly different high-powered attack. Redemptorist is led by running backs Jonathan Green and Chris Malone, who have led them to wins over Wossman and Cecilia in the postseason thus far.
But while Redemptorist prefers to keep it on the ground, Lutcher will visit with an offense that loves to air it out. Quarterback Blaine Gauthier has totaled 2443 passing yards and 29 touchdowns through his 11 games this season, while also leading the team in rushing with 585 yards and 15 scores. In short, when Gauthier drops back, he can pick up the first down – and usually, more – in a multitude of ways.
In the regional matchup with St. Charles, the Comets were able to run the ball effectively early on, before the Bulldogs completely shut down the running lanes for the rest of the game. If the defense can do that again, Lutcher will advance to the semifinals.
When each team suffered a loss this year, however, it was in a shootout – Redemptorist lost 43-41 to Parkview Baptist, while Lutcher fell to East Ascension 48-47 in overtime. This could be a very high scoring affair on Friday.
