LAPLACE – The St. John the Baptist Sheriff’s office arrested a LaPlace man this past Wednesday in connection with an October armed robbery.

Sheriff’s Office Spokesperson, Maj. Mike Tregre, said Chester W. Reese IV, 26, 1425 Phoenix Ln., LaPlace, turned himself in after a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Reese was booked with armed robbery and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He is being held in the Sherman Walker Correctional Facility on a $200,000 bond.

According to incident reports from the Sheriff’s office, deputies were dispatched to a Yorktowne Drive residence on October 10, 2007 in reference to robbery. Upon arrival, deputies were met by 27-year-old Clarence Goffner Jr., who proceeded to tell police he was beaten and robbed by Reese.

Goffner said he and three other men were sitting in a vehicle in the area of the 400 block of Sugar Pine Drive when Reese approached the car and proceeded to have a verbal argument with the driver, known only as “Clank,” over a case of beer.

Goffner said after “Clank” fled the scene on foot, Reese approached him, asked him something about his involvement with “Clank,” then proceeded to hit him in the face.

The report said Reese took Goffner’s cell phone, tennis shoes, and $103.

After the incident, Goffner walked home, and was treated for his injuries at River Parishes Hospital.
