Rebels down St. James, win 30th game

Riverside won it’s fifth and sixth straight non-tournament matches this past week. And the Rebels even collected a tournament title along the way.

The Rebels defeated St. James at home on Thursday to move to 3-0 in district play. Riverside also defeated Loranger on the road Tuesday for the second time this season.

Finally, the Rebels defeated South LaFourche in the finals of the Cat Scratch Tournament at East St. John on Saturday to take home that trophy.

Riverside (30-3, 3-0) defeated St. James in three games, 25-12, 25-20 and 25-15. Marci Millet led the way for the Rebels by tallying 25 kills, 23 digs and two blocks. Setting her up on many of those kills was Jessica Price, who had 32 assists and also five aces.

The victory sets Riverside up to finish undefeated in District 4-IV play with a championship. This Tuesday, the Rebels host Curtis in the final district game for each team.

On Tuesday, Riverside controlled the match with Loranger throughout, winning again in three games, 25-11, 25-12 and 25-12. It marked the second time Riverside has defeated Loranger this season.

Price had a strong performance for the Rebels with another five ace game to go with 32 assists. Kaitlyn Millet had four blocks and Marci Millet tallied 15 kills. Aimee Williamson had 21 digs.

In Saturday’s Cat Scratch Tournament, Riverisde won five matches on its way to the tournament championship. The Rebels defeated East St. John, South LaFourche and Loranger to finish undefeated in pool play, then defeated Houma Christian in the semifinals before toppling South LaFourche again in the championship game.

Today, Riverside will host St. Charles at 10 a.m.
