This week marked the last two occasions that the Reserve Christian senior volleyball players would step onto their home floor.
They made the most of the occasion.
While district foes Bishop McManus and Believer’s Life came in attempting to play spoiler, the Eagles rolled to victories in each match – not losing a single game out of six.
On Tuesday, the Eagles (5-17, 4-5) dispatched Bishop McManus, 25-10, 25-10, and 25-3.
For an encore, they followed up the performance in the team’s “Senior Salute” game, as it defeated Believer’s Life, 25-21, 25-8, and 25-7.
Before that game, Reserve Christian “saluted” seniors Madison Reeves, Khrista Robinson, Jessica Louque and Jamie Mayberry, all of whom received extensive playing time in their last home appearance.
“I feel great about the seniors going out with a win in their last home game,” said Reserve Christian Coach Michelle McGee. “They’ve worked very hard. I’m very happy that we won.”
Reeves led the Eagles with 19 aces in the match. Louque tallied nine, while Amanda Watson notched five.
After a tough contest in the first game with Believer’s Life, the final two belonged to the Eagles from start to finish.
In the matchup with Bishop McManus, Louque had another strong effort with 19 aces. Reeves notched six aces. Daysha Blount had four aces and two spikes, while Victoria Michel tallied seven aces.
“We served it well,” said Reeves. “The aces were a big help, and we’re communicating well with one another.”
Louque concurred with Reeves’ assessment.
“The biggest improvement from last year to this year has really been our teamwork,” Louque said. “We’re calling for the ball and talking out there.”
Leading 12-7 in the first game after a Blount ace, RCS scored the next seven points in a row to extend the lead to 19-7. Louque had three aces during the run. Bishop McManus would score the next three points before the Eagles closed out the match with six straight points, mostly on aces by Reeves.
After leading 15-10 in the second game, the Eagles became untouchable. Reserve Christian scored the last ten points of that game and the first 11 of the third game for 21 straight points in all. RCS scored 35 of the final 38 points in the match.
During one stretch, Louque notched eight consecutive aces.
RCS rebounded to win those two games after losses a week ago to the top two teams in District 6-V, Northlake Christian and Lutheran. Northlake Christian defeated RCS 25-6, 25-6, and 25-4. Robinson had two digs for RCS.
Lutheran defeated RCS 25-10, 25-22 and 25-15. Lacie Felder had three aces for the Eagles. Reeves had two kills.
