It’s been a long trip this season, but the Reserve Christian Eagles have reason to smile after notching their first victory of the season Thursday, a win over district foe Bishop McManus, 25-4, 19-25, 25-18, and 25-8.
Madison Reeves had nine aces and Jessica Louque had six to help their team to victory.
“It’s nice to bring home a win,” said Reserve Christian coach Michelle McGee. “We need to continue to work hard though and not rest on this win. There are still things that have to become second nature to the group.”
Reserve Christian (1-16, 1-2) got all-around strong games from seniors Reeves and Louque, as well as freshman Tiffani Serven and sophomore Lacie Felder.
McGee credited Reeves with having a remarkable performance in the victory.
“She is an all-around great player. She seems to always be where the ball is.”
Serven made a string of big plays including three “dinks” that McGee said put the Eagles in great position.
Felder was very much a presence as well, making a number of key digs and returns.
The teams played evenly in the second and third games, but the opening and clinching games belonged to the Eagles from beginning to end.
The win was crucial for Reserve Christian, as it came off consecutive losses to another district rival, Lutheran, as well as a loss to district power Northlake Christian last week.
The Eagles first loss to Lutheran did not count in the district standings, as it took place in the Ecole Classique tournament. RCS lost to Lutheran in its third match of the day 25-3. In the first two, RCS lost first to Lusher, 25-16 and 25-15, and the second to host Ecole, 25-20 and 25-17.
In the Lusher match, Amanda Watson led the way for the Eagles with five aces. Against Ecole, Madison Reeves paced RCS with four aces.
On Tuesday, the team met Lutheran in a district game, which Lutheran prevailed in 25-13, 25-12 and 25-11.
