After opening the season 2-0, the East St. John volleyball team now returns to the drawing board.
The Wildcats have lost two straight matches after a loss at Belle Chasse on Thursday, 25-19, 25-10, and 27-25.
Much like two days prior, when the Wildcats lost their first game of the season at home to Thibodeaux, East St. John Coach Monica Hebert said her team came out flat early, and paid for it with a loss.
“The team wasn’t communicating early on, and it cost us against a very good team in Belle Chasse,” Hebert said.
The third game was a different story, as the Wildcats staved off elimination until finally falling 27-25.
That game, Hebert said, was a positive sign that the team could return to the form that it had in the opening two games of the season, when defeated South Lafourche and Central Lafourche.
“In that third game, it was out of nowhere,” Hebert said. “It was like a totally new team. They were talking out there, and played with more energy.”
Monique Briggs led the Wildcats with nine kills. Raven Simmons, Jolethia Byers, and Chantell Bush each had five. Lyndreise Franklin led East St. John with seven digs.
East St. John will return to action on Tuesday, going on the road to face Riverside.
