LAPLACE – Police arrested a male LaPlace resident wanted for possession of a stolen semi-automatic assault rifle, early Friday morning, when a family member called 911 to report he was causing a verbal disturbance.

St. John Parish police say 21- year-old Jeremy Diggs fled the cops earlier this month when two sheriff’s deputies caught him in possession of the stolen gun in a parking lot close to the scene of Friday’s incident.

After sliding the weapon underneath a parked car, Diggs dashed on foot, behind an apartment complex, where the police lost him. An analysis of the gun revealed that it had been stolen from another vehicle earlier that day.

Diggs is being held at Sherman Walker Correctional Center.
