Williams, Trepagnier, Jensen among those who shined at meet

Lightning and rain showers delayed the start of Monday’s meet at Larayo between the Barracudas and Belle Terre for over an hour. But it didn’t stop defending River Parish Swim League champion Larayo from notching its second victory of the season, 429.5 to 118.5.

&#8220We were determined to get the meet in, despite the rain,” Larayo Coach Michelle Jensen said. &#8220We didn’t have to eliminate any heats. Everyone got to swim. It was a great job by everyone involved, the meet ran very smooth.

Larayo staked to a big lead after the freestyle event, 79-29, and coasted from there. The lead was 160.5- 54.5 after the backstroke; 237.5-80.5 after the breaststroke; 303.5-104.5 after the butterfly, and 429.5-118.5 after the relays.

Kelsie Williams, Cody Schaffer, Hailey Specht, Brandon Klibert, and Maggie Trepagnier all swept the individual events they took part in, each notching three first place finishes.

&#8220Times are dropping, we’re pleased to see that,” Jensen said. &#8220A couple weeks into the season, kids are getting into the swing of things.”

Belle Terre Coach Kellie Forster was not disheartened by the loss, given the quality of the opponent.

&#8220We have talent on this team, and we did the best we could. Larayo did a great job,” Forster said. &#8220I’m proud of how we swam.”

Belle Terre had its share of individual winners. Tyler Songy and James Krawzcyk each swept their individual categories, taking three first place finishes each.

And Belle Terre made a big impact in the 15-18 year old girls events, taking first in each individual event and 11 of the 12 placements. Piranha swimmers in that group included Laura Bailey, Alexis Bailey, Jennifer Broussard and Allie Gonzales.
