Wade Delaneuville struck out eight and had an RBI single as Riverside-based Fatty’s Restaurant defeated its Second District rival, the East Jefferson-based Bell Office Machines, 2-1 at East Jefferson.
The game was the district and division opener for each team, as Fatty’s Restaurant is now 2-0 overall and 1-0 in the American Legion Second District West division.
Delaneuville pitched a complete game, scattering four hits and four walks, allowing one earned run.
Bell Office challenged in the sixth, scoring a run and cutting Fatty’s Restaurant’s two run lead to 2-1, but Delaneuville got out the inning with no more damage assessed.
“He was a bulldog out there tonight,” Fatty’s Restaurant Coach Britt Waguespack said. “He stayed ahead of hitters. If he walked a guy, he’d go and strike out the next two. He gave in to nobody, he just battled.”
Fatty’s Restaurant struck first after Jade Falgoust led off with a single and stole second. That set up Delaneuville, who singled him in for the game’s first run.
“Jade always sparks us offensively,” Waguespack said. “When Jade gets on to lead off the game and steals second, and it puts Wade up there in position to drive one in, that’s always where we want to be to start a game.”
In the third inning, Timmy Teague doubled and would score on an error to put Fatty’s up 2-1.
Falgoust went 2-for-3. Delaneuville was 1-for-3 with an RBI.
“We struggled a bit offensively tonight,” Waguespack said. “We didn’t give in though, and we found a way to win. That’s what it’s all about.”
