Edgard/Reserve ferry to close beginning on June 8, Corps reports

BATON ROUGE — The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) will close the Edgard/Reserve Ferry landing. The last day of service will be June 8.

The ferry is closing down so that the United States Army Corps of Engineers can make improvements to the levee. The improvements will prevent ferry access to the ferry landing.

The closure is estimated to last until November 2007 and is contingent upon the Corps’ completion of the project.

An alternate route for ferry passengers is to drive to Veterans’ Memorial Bridge (La. 3213) in Gramercy.

When open, the operating hours for the ferry are 5:15 a.m. to 8:45 p.m. Monday through Friday. The ferry is closed on the weekends.

Questions regarding levee improvements should be directed to Durund Elzey of the United States Army Corps of Engineers.
