RESERVE – The St. John Parish School Board held a Discipline Committee meeting Thursday in the board’s Media Center. Among the issues discussed was the announcement that trailers will used at East St. John High School to separate students with discipline problems from the general student body.
The focus of the meeting was to discuss and review the student code of conduct and attendance regulations. The meeting was lead by committee members Robert Schaff, Ann Laborde and Matthew Ory.
Highlights of the meeting included the announcement that East St. John High School could be used as a possible alternative site for trailers that will be used to hold separate classes for students with discipline problems.
A change of dress code for the Redirection Center was also discussed requiring students who do not follow the dress code to wear school-assigned coveralls during the school day.
The discussion of policies for students who are caught fighting were on the agenda and the policies will provide social skills training for students in need of further education in social behavior.
Committee member Ann Laborde said, “We need to help the students achieve their academic goals, while working on their behavior and keeping them off the streets.”
