Monica, Duhe named Mr., Miss SCC Comet

St. Charles Catholic High School recently held its annual All-Sports Banquet to honor its teams and athletes. Over 250 athletes were honored for their efforts and performaces during the 2006-07 year. SCC had an outstanding year in sports including appreances in the state championship game by the football and baseball teams. The Starsteppers dance team captured the UDA Divison I National Champioship in Orlando. The softball team and volleyball each reached the state tournament. Both the boys’ and girls’ soccer teams won their respective district championships. Gina Monica and Steven Duhe’ received the top athletic honor at SCC, being named Miss and Mr. Comet.

Monica was a three year letterman in volleyball, basketball, and softball and was a starter in all three sports as a junior and a senior. She was named all-district, all-River Parishes, and all-parish as a senior in volleyball. She was an all-district selection in softball as a junior. She led the Comets’ volleyball and softbal teams to the state tournament. Monica was selected to the LHSAA Academic All-State Teams in all three sports. She was also selected as a WWL A+ Athlete by Channel 4 in New Orleans and was SCC’s nominee for the Wendy’s High School Heisman.

Duhe’ excelled in football and baseball at SCC. He earned all-River Parishes and all-state honors as a linebacker in football. He was named New Orleans Quarterback Club Player of the Week for his performance against Sterlington in the state quarterfinals. He led SCC to a second straight appearnace in the state chamionship game. As a junior in baseball, he was named all-district, all-River Parishes, all-metro, and all-state as a pitcher. He led the Comets to the state semi-finals as a junior and to the state championship game as a senior.
