The Lady Rams were on the wrong end of a 19-18 final score in their match with East Iberville Monday afternoon, but with another crack at the Lady Tigers set for Wednesday this week, the WSJ softball squad can give themselves a chance in the playoffs.
“We had that one won,” said West St. John head coach Brandon Dumas of his team’s Monday game. “We were one out away and just couldn’t finish it. It was a lot of errors that stopped us. A lot of errors. But we had a lead on them so we know we can win against them. If we can get them next time then we’ll have to play again to decide who gets into the playoffs.”
With a one-game lead on WSJ, East Iberville is set to travel into Edgard for the next meeting.
In the Monday game, the Lady Rams were on target from the plate. They totaled ten hits in the effort with Tranell Mitchell leading the way with two hits in two at-bats and three RBIs. Shardae Bradley and Destani Comminie also had a pair of hits each, with Bradley getting a homer and Comminie recording two RBIs. Comminie also pitched for WSJ, going all seven innings.
“For some reason, we have trouble with the off-speed pitches,” said Dumas. “We hit the fast ball pretty well, but we can’t seem to get the timing down on those slow pitches. If we can adjust to that, there’s no reason we can’t beat [East Iberville] next time.”
The Lady Tigers did get a bit lucky to leave with the win after WSJ
Wednesday was an even rougher outing for West St. John softball as the Lady Rams took a 16-0 loss from Ascension Catholic. With ___ ___ on the mound, WSJ played three innings before it was called. ____ ____ had the Lady Rams sole hit in the effort.
Next up for West St. John, the Lady Rams have a home swing scheduled with St. John of Plaquemine coming into Edgard on Monday and East Iberville on Wednesday.
