LAPLACE – The St. John Sheriff’s Office is searching for the worst distributor of bad checks in St. John Parish, who reportedly purchased thousands of dollars of goods in the last four months.

William Leslie, 54, of LaPlace, reportedly wrote $6,356.57 in a total of 24 bad checks since November 2006, using his real name and ID to distribute the checks to merchants throughout the area.

Most of the checks listed a company name of Leslie Electrical Services LLC. with a New Orleans address, but he also distributed personal checks showing his real name and a LaPlace address, according to Meg Spatz, victim advocate of the St. John Parish district attorney’s worthless checks division.

Aside from his given name of William Leslie, he goes by the aliases Sterling Doucette and Doucette Sterling, according to Maj. Mike Tregre of the St. John Sheriff’s Office.
