St. Charles Parish sheriff honored

Sheriff Greg Champagne was recently honored at a local Awards Banquet held byCrimestoppers. Champagne was a recipient of the &#8220Law Enforcement Award” which recognized him and his department’s post Katrina efforts for serving their community and outstanding participation with Crimestoppers.

Crimestoppers is a 501( c ) 3 non- profit organization which works in cooperation with local law enforcement, media, and the general public to solve and prevent crimes in the parishes of St. Charles, Orleans, Jefferson, St. Bernard, St. John, St. Tammany, Plaquemines, and St. James. The program is 22 years old and utilizes a 24- hour anonymous crime tip hot line. Since it’s inception, Crimestoppers has assisted law enforcement to solve over 6,000 crimes and has paid out over $800,000 in cash rewards to callers.
