LUTCHER – With a district showdown against John Curtis for the 10-2A lead around the corner, St. Charles softball went into the Lady Bulldog tournament last Friday having earned a 12-1 record for the regular season. The Lady Comets had their hands full though on Friday as they were handed their second loss of the season by Lutcher in an 11-0 final, but recovered in the tournament’s Saturday games with a 3-2 win over Teurlings and a 4-3 win over St. Amant.

St. Charles put Ashley Trosclair on the mound for the tournament opener. She went through five innings for SCC, but couldn’t stop the Lady Bulldogs from taking advantage of the seven errors committed by St. Charles. The game ended 11-0 in the fifth inning with two hits recorded by the Lady Comets.

Against Teurlings in the first game of Saturday’s action, Courtney Western got the start from the mound in the 3-2 winning effort while Lauren Coniglio came up with the winning hit in SCC’s final round of at-bats.

&#8220She came up with runners on second and third base in the bottom of the seventh and hit the game-winner with a single up the middle,” said SCC head coach Ty Monica of Coniglio. &#8220It was a good shot right when we needed it.”

The final outing of the tournament for St. Charles put them up against St. Amant with Trosclair back on the mound. Trosclair kept the Lady ___ to three runs throughout while Katie Tregre was SCC’s hit leader with three. Western added two in the 4-3 victory.

The Lady Comets go to 14-2 with the tournament as they are set to host Curtis Tuesday. Curtis and SCC are currently the only undefeated teams in 10-2A play.
