LAPLACE – To put a part of LaPlace on the map and beautify an important stretch of road, Veterans Boulevard is getting a makeover.

In order to pay the proper respect to the important facilities on the boulevard, the council has asked the St. John administration to bring the street to glory by adding a grassy median, putting lights on both sides of the road and other changes that have yet to be decided.

The stretch of road, the current home of a senior citizen residence, DMV, and National Guard Building, and soon to be location of the St. John Veteran’s Home, was originally intended to resemble Belle Terre Boulevard in LaPlace.

However, plans went to the wayside and the street is beginning to resemble a road like anything other, according to St. John Council Member Allen St. Pierre.

&#8220From the outset we were under the impression that Veterans Boulevard would be a Boulevard,” St. Pierre said.

Promising to make the boulevard more aesthetically pleasing, Parish President Nickie Monica said, &#8220We will work very hard to achieve that goal.”

Neither the council nor the administration has set a completion date for the improvements.
