St. Michael’s Cemetery Tours
To begin the St. James Parish Bicentennial month, a Cemetery Tour is being held at St. Michael’s Cemetery on Saturday, March 3, 2007.
Limited tickets are on sale at the St. James Parish Welcome Center and the Parish Libraries. Admission Fee is $10.00, and includes a tour of the St. Michael’s Grotto, the St. Michael Cemetery Tour given by costumed performers, and a visit to Felix Poche’ Plantation where there will be a room dressed in mourning. Come enjoy the heritage of the St. Michael’s Cemetery and learn about the Victorian lifestyle. The tour
times are 10:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 1:30 p.m. and 3;30 p.m. There will be gumbo for sale during the day also. There is also a

St. James Parish Bicentennial Celebration
St. James Parish will celebrate its 200th birthday! A Bicentennial Celebration will be held on March 31, 2007 at the Welcome Recreation Park in the town of St. James on the West Bank of the parish. The celebration will begin with an Interfaith Prayer Service at 9:00 a.m. on the grounds of St. James Catholic Church, followed by a motorcade to the Welcome Recreation Park. The festivities will continue at the Welcome Park with a Flag Raising Ceremony, followed by a reaffirmation of the oath of office of our St. James Parish elected officials. A costume contest will be held the day of the celebration. Get into the spirit of the St. James Parish Bicentennial and enter the costume contest. Registraton for the costume contest will be held the day of the contest. Dress in a costume representing the first 100 years, 1807 – 1907. Wonderful prizes will be awarded to men, women, children and babies. Men, start growing those

Local personalities will perform throughout the day, demonstrations of “by gone” crafts will also be a part of the celebration. Some of the best cooks in St. James Parish will also be on hand to serve you a delicious meal. Come out and join in the fun! The celebration will end at dusk with fireworks!
