Destrhan’s girls basketball team had a tall order last Thursday night when they drew the defending state champion Southwood squad from North Louisiana in the bi-district round of the 5A playoffs.
The Lady Wildcats opened the game respectably, finding themselves down by just three points after the first quarter. But the Lady Cowboys turned it up in the second period, going on a 14-4 run to bring it into the break with a 13 point Southwood lead.
Destrehan was unable to close the gap any as the Lady Cowboys kept their momentum going in the third quarter while DHS found scoring difficult. Once the clock ran out on the game, and the Lady Wildcat’s season, Southwood advanced with a 61-28 win that puts them into the regionals round of play against Lafayette.
Tawanna Lee led all scorers in the game with 14, but Destrehan’s girls squad ended their season with a 12-19 overall record.
