Bourgeois, Tregre come through in clutch for SCC in Covington against Lady Vikings

Lady Comet softball was tested in their first game of the season Wednesday afternoon at Covington High, as the Lady Lions took SCC through seven full innings with things tied up at a 2-2 score.

But freshman Emily Bourgeois came to the rescue in her first at-bat of the season when when she stepped to the plate to open the eighth and tripled herself right into scoring postion. Senior Katie Tregre chipped her in with a textbook bunt, giving the Lady Comets a 3-2 lead. Ashley Trosclair came in and held off Covington in the eighth for the save to secure the win.

&#8220Courtney Weston pitched a great game for seven innings,” said St. Charles assistant coach Michael Pecoraro of the freshman who held 5A Covington in check. &#8220She did a heck of a job. And Katie laid down a perfect bunt to score the winning run.”

Scoring for SCC started out in the fourth inning when Lauren Coniglio and Addie Reine reached base and Katie Reine drove them in and reached third herself. But the inning ended before she could get home and both teams went scoreless for the next two innings. In the bottom half, Covington answered with a pair of runs of their own, leaving it tie up for the next two innings before the Lady Comet heroics.

Addy Reine had three of SCC’s eight hits and Katie Reine had two RBIs in the win.

They had a quick turnaround with a game against Ascension Catholic on Thursday, taking a 10-1 win over the Lady Bulldogs There, Trosclair led the Lady Comets from the mound, giving up only three hits, and from the batter’s box, where she went 3-ro-4 with 2 RBIs.

The win puts SCC softball at 2-0 with a game next scheduled against Thibodaux.
