DONALDSONVILLE — Hitting the road for their first road game this week, the Comets headed west to take on a 15-12 Donaldsonville team, each with hopes of getting district play off on the right foot.

Unfortunately for St. Charles fans, it was the Tigers that came away with this victory, a 75-64 win that came on a balanced offensive attack and a spread defense that prevented the Comet offense from getting in their groove.

The 10-2A boys match-up opened with both teams finding scores with consistency in the first quarter to the tune of a 17-15 Donaldsonville lead.

But in the second quarter, the Tigers made a move and pushed their two point lead into a eight before the break. St. Charles came out after the half to post their best two offensive quarters of the night, but Donaldsonville answered back each time to hold the Comets at bay.

Jonathan Bonura led SCC in the effort with 24 points while DeMarcus Bernard chipped in with 15. The loss drops St. Charles to 10-13 on the season and starts them in district at 0-1.

The two squads are set to meet again for the LaPlace leg of the 10-2A series on February 2.
