LULING – A high-speed chase that began by car and ended by bicycle concluded with the arrest of an Avondale man early Tuesday morning.

A St. Charles Parish Police Officer attempted to pull over Tory Brown, 21, who was allegedly driving at extremely high speeds in a stolen car at midnight on Highway 90, but Brown continued his dangerous pace towards Interstate 310, speeding through three stop lights in an attempt to escape, according to Capt. Pat Yoes of the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office.

After driving a considerable distance, another officer joined the chase moments before Brown lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a house on Barton Avenue, Yoes said.

Brown fled from his vehicle on foot and escaped police pursuit for a short while, but officers spotted him riding a stolen bicycle on the levee near River Road and placed him under arrest at 1:08 a.m.

He was found covered in lacerations from crashing into the house, which received substantial damage, Yoes said.

Brown has a $250,000 bail and has been charged with speeding, reckless operation, flight using a motor vehicle, suspended driver’s license, possession of stolen property, hit and run and three counts of failure to stop at a red light.

The vehicle Brown drove was reportedly stolen from Baton Rouge.
