RESERVE – Veterans and their loved ones desiring application materials for the War Veterans Home in St. John Parish can get them on-line or in person at their local Veterans Service Office.
The application is available for download at http://www.vetaffairs.com/application.html, and should be sent to one of several addresses listed on the web page. LaPlace residents desiring the more traditional method can find the Veterans Service Office at 102 East Airline Highway, LaPlace, LA 70068.
“Not everyone who applies is given a spot,” said Department of Veterans Affairs Deputy Assistant Secretary Homer Rodgers. “They must be eligible by Veteran Administration guidelines.”
Only veterans who served in the military forces during a wartime period such as Vietnam, World War II and the Iraq War are eligible for housing, said Rodgers, but it is not necessary that they were ever in a war zone.
Half of the approximately 30 veterans that applied for housing are expected to be granted lodging.
