Lady Rebels topple WSJ on Saturday, set to host St. Charles this Monday

Lutcher volleyball picked up a pair of wins this week after sweeping St. Mary’s on Monday and staging a dramatic comeback against Riverside on Wednesday where the Lady Bulldogs rallied to a 15-13 win in the fifth set after falling behind two games to none.

Riverside, meanwhile, finished up their open schedule with the loss, just their fourth in 21 games this season, heading into the district stretch.

Play began in the Wednesday afternoon match with Riverside taking the first two games by narrow scores of 22-25 and 23-25. But Lutcher held on and forced a tie breaker when they evened the match with scores of 25-21 and 25-23 in the third and fourth games.

That brought it down to the tiebreaker where the Lady Bulldogs completed the comeback in clutch fashion with a 15-13 win.

Katie Duhe led LHS with four aces, 20 kills and nine digs while the Lady Rebels were led by Marci Millet’s three aces and 14 digs. Nicole Porrier added 14 digs and 41 assists while Ashley Heckathorn posted 16 kills.

Both teams were coming off of wins heading into their match-up, with the Lady Rebels sweeping West St. John on Saturday and the Lady Bulldogs doing the same to St Mary’s on Monday.

Riverside, meanwhile, finished up their open schedule with the loss, just their fourth in 21 games this season, heading into the district stretch.

Next up, the Lady Rebels play host to district rival St. Charles on Monday.

Lutcher is next scheduled to host the Bulldog Classic this weekend before openeing district against DeLaSalle next week.
