MT. AIRY – A Mt. Airy man was found dead Wednesday afternoon after a phone call the victim made from his cell phone to a family member Monday sparked a parish wide search for the missing man.

Tyran Scott, 27, of 160 Marigold St, was found dead in a wooded area near his home, Wednesday, after a helicopter search by Louisiana State Police, according to St. John Sheriff’s office Spokesman Maj. Mike Tregre.

Authorities were contacted after the victim telephoned his brother Monday night stating that he had a gun pointed to his head and that he was going to die. St. John deputies began a missing person search for Scott after the incident was reported.

Scott was the victim of an apparent gunshot wound and the death is unclassified at this time, pending toxicology reports. No official cause of death has yet been listed.
